There have been some recent events on this game that warrant some concern. It’s no secret that there has been a lack of interest. Much of this may be attributed to the release of Shades of Mystery. If that is what people want to play, far be it from me to tell them not to play it.

That being said. I am still a paying customer of Sleuth Noir. As a paying customer there are some things that I expect. Ben has done a decent job at keeping the server up and running. We had a slight issue earlier in the week with not being able to travel and Ben did a great job of addressing the issue and getting it corrected. He always has done a great job of taking care of things. He has not however kept the game fresh and interesting. We recently had the expansion of the USS Sleuthetania. There was a buzz before the initial launch of it and we couldn’t wait to see what was in store for us.

Well what did we get? The opportunity to pay $20,000 to get on board of a ship and do nothing more than play cases. Sure there are some new characters and new items along with 2 new “coming soon” links. That’s it! I can’t help but to feel disappointed in the way this has played out. Two weeks later, the links are still coming soon and the interest of the boat has already gone away. I know I have no plans or reason to get on the boat and be cut off from my agency completely. I don’t know this for a fact, but I think a lot of people are disappointed with the boat as well and some may even be irritated and feel cheated by the whole development.

Maybe I’m being a bit harsh and we are missing some secret that still needs to be unlocked on the boat, but if people aren’t playing, the secret will not be unlocked. I know that Ben is just one person and can only do so much. He has a lot on his plate right now with running both SOM and Noir. I’m sorry, but SOM means absolutely nothing to me as I don’t play over there.

The program does work, a setting or two may need to be tweaked, I'll have some full install instructions and another copy of the file up on DPI's website in the next day or two. Was gonna do it tonight but ran into some PC problems of my own that I had to get resolved. Stupid ISP! :-S

I just had a short trip into Shades, and what I discovered when I logged out made me disappointed.
Whenever I log out of Noir, to change to another detective, I have to pass by the page which presents both the Sleuth games, so that I will be sure to be reminded what is hot and what is not...
BUT, when I logged out of Shades, I came directly to the Shades login page, and did NOT have to go by the page which presents both the Sleuth games....
Either this is a mistake, and I am sure Ben can quickly correct the problem to proove this was just a mistake, or it's done by purpose, which in my eyes feels ... well, the words I would use to describe it are not really positive...
I have a feeling that we in the Noir community from time to time feel neglected, and such small details don't actually help the impression.
I hope very much this is just a small mistake...

Yes. That's been like that from day one. It's not ideal, but in the greater scheme of things, it's not earth-shatteringly important. Reading this kind of trivial gripe when Ben's come through with the goods for the ship just now really irks me, and, I suspect, probably makes Ben feel a bit 'neglected' and have a few less than 'positive' thoughts too. lol I also have quite few words left, but like you I'll stop here too.

I couldn't agree with you more, Squirrel. People have been crying all over the boards for something new for months, and when they get it, there is hardly a word of praise for Ben, they go on with their endless complaints and lamentations over small things as if nothing has happened. I'll stop here too, and direct my positive thoughts to the Sleuthetania.

Well, I guess I have to say sorry. I just recently discovered.
- the reason being that I were more interested in and concerned about Noir than about Shades.

If I had not cared about the game, I would not even care about crying.
- so what I understand from you are that the involvement of my heart in Sleuth Noir is not wanted. It makes me spam the board with posts, makes me too easy to bait, and makes me cry up about details.... - everything just a pain for the others.... :-(

Now, being tender-hearted, I will try to take your advice, and try to move the involvement of my heart elsewhere. Hopefully that will be my best contribution to the community.

I can understand Huglover. I don’t think it was her intension to just have a “trivial gripe” and I hope that I am not at odds with people for thinking there is a valid point here.

In this thread people have voiced genuine concern that the players are not coming to Noir like they used to and the few that are, they aren't staying. I think there was a general agreement on this thread that having the website with both games on it with Shades prominent does not help Noir. In fact, the games are set up right now to take interest away from Noir. It was a great idea when Shades was first launched, but surely there must come a time to let Noir have a chance to rebuild its following?

There is certainly a feeling from players who’ve spent a lot of time in Noir that something good has been built and a sense of community has always been present. I can image how proud Ben must feel as the architect. It’s really nice to hear the development has been complete and I look forward to playing the finished Sleuthetania! :) But, can we have a look at building up the numbers over here again to appreciate it too?

Thank you for your support Brasco De Gama. It means a lot to me.

Paranoid Android and Rosamund Clifford made me feel that there was an unsaid wish that I sent a formal letter of resignation to Sleuth Noir.

I don't really want to fill this board up with to's and fro's but really...

I don't doubt anyone's enthusiasm for the game. Anyone's desire to see it move forward. If Noir doesn't grow it dies. Simple.

My point is purely thus:

Whilst we spend all this time lamenting what was, bewailing what could have been, railing against what should be, and even reveling in what might be, that we occasionally take the time to remove our heads form our asses and appreciate what 'is'.

Anyway I'm off to buy another ticket ont he ship and try and work out what the heck is going on.
