Sleuth Wiki?

This is posted in both Noir and SoM.

In sleuth world we have a lot of websites giving advice, acting as web pages for players or agencies. This creates a very hard to navigate community, the wiki would take all that information and put into one website.
For those of you who don't know a wiki is a database that can be edited by anyone, but some measures are in place to stop vandals.
The wiki would allow for the most up to date Sleuth Encyclopedia and will give agencies and users to show what they've got beyond the little spaces we are allowed to edit on our profiles.

I would just like to now if there is an interest for this, before I go ahead and maybe set it up.

For what it's worth, I think a Sleuth Wiki is a great idea.

If you don't do it someone else might and it might not be so accurate....

I have been waiting to weigh in on this one... and I guess now I will...

I'm not opposed to the idea in many facets. Of course I love the idea of being able to help others.

But, of course, I'm not in favor of the idea in many ways. It could take away from much of the need and use of SleuthTips, and I've worked extremely hard on the site. A wiki might push us to have to close, or at least have to move to a free hosting facility, which I would hate to do.

I obviously see the reasoning behind it, but I guess I don't see the reasoning as coming up with a large enough need for it to be created.

For what it's worth, I don't think I can endorse the idea. Count me among the nay's.

This was originally posted by me on Shades of Mystery.

To be honest when I first read your proposal I thought great idea, but as I continued to think upon it my opinions changed as well.
What I am wondering, is there truely enough information to warrant a wiki. Yes it is true that there are many sites for Noir, but most of the sites have much of the same information. And yes each site does have something unique to offer, that is what gives each site it's own identity.

I don't think that a wiki would detract from the agency websites, since I feel the agency websites main purpose is to let others get to know more about the agency and its members. The fact that most agencies also like to give helpful information for its members and the community is an added bonus.

I do think though that a wiki might effect the websites whose main purpose is to give guidence, information and tips. After all there really is not an over abundance of information. And just as in Noir there are only a handful of sites whose main purpose is to give information and guidence.

So in closing I guess I don't really see the need for a wiki.

Thank you for your opinion Jojo, I was very interested in what you were going to say because of the importance of sleuthtips in the community.

I wouldn't mind a wiki with a bit of a narrowed focus. I would like to see the FM guide remain exclusively with Sleuthtips - and maybe little job answers as well (even though many agencies provide 'em). It's kind of what Jojo's site is known for.

Obviously great caution should be used in revealing spoilers - themes and certain faction related info.

I would love and welcome a history oriented wiki. During my time here I've killed countless hours digging through the message board looking for clues to the development pattern of the game and the community. There's a lot of interesting stuff in there. Grand ideas, conflicts, RL events (SleuthCon!), etc. The wiki could also serve as the "Hall of Fame" for venerated Sleuths and Agencies that have gone by the wayside.

As for agencies, it would be nice to have a list of agency websites. I think those sites would actually get more exposure that way, since now you have to spend lots of time clicking through the agency list browsing.

Maybe I should just create the wiki and see where the community wants to take it, any thoughts?
