This is posted in both Noir and SoM.

In sleuth world we have a lot of websites giving advice, acting as web pages for players or agencies. This creates a very hard to navigate community, the wiki would take all that information and put into one website.
For those of you who don't know a wiki is a database that can be edited by anyone, but some measures are in place to stop vandals.
The wiki would allow for the most up to date Sleuth Encyclopedia and will give agencies and users to show what they've got beyond the little spaces we are allowed to edit on our profiles.

I would just like to now if there is an interest for this, before I go ahead and maybe set it up.

Am I understanding this that y'all are wanting to put up some kind of article on wikipedia.com or some such?? If that's the case, I say go for it! Dunno how much expertise I have to give, but whatever Missy and I can do to help, please let us know, and we'll be right there! I'd personally like to see as many different sites and creations as people can come up with. I think it'd be neat!! ;-)

I don't think it's a bad idea to have a wiki page. I'm not a big fan of wiki as it is, alot of incorrect information can be posted there as anyone can go there. For something like this game though I don't think its a bad thing.

In fact, it can give some of the people that are not an editor of their agencies website a chance to contribute. It won't replace all the comminuty sites that we have, nor do I think it should. Like lil stated, each site has it's own individuality and I don't think it would take anything away from the other sites that are out there.

The negative part of wiki goes to the anybody can post anything they want part of it and that could really open the doors to agency and player bashing that can't be modded. I think our mods do a great job here of doing the modding but is there a way to take it off of wiki if it's inappropriate? There have been some feuds in the game and I would hate to see them carried over to a site that can't be controlled or things could get out of hand very quickly. I guess what I'm asking is, yoyo, if you create the page do you have any and all editing rights for it? I haevn't really looked at wiki too much and never really use it for a point of reference. Regardless of whether or not it's up, the community sites are not gonna go away, I thinks thats one of the aspects that has made this game fun, esecially being an agency director.

I'm really not to worried about anybody copying anything from DPI's website, while all of us creators have worked hard on our sites, we have no trademarks or copyrights so by putting them out on the internet pretty much makes them open game to have information copied from them.

OK, I guess I flip-flopped on the issue enough here, I guess my point is I don't care one way or the other. But if you do decide to do something, I just may learn a bit about wiki so that I can make a community contribution. Thanks for bringing this up and making it an open debate.

I have been looking around at places that can store the wiki and the one I think that will be the best is http://www.wikidot.com/.

It says on their website 'You can decide who can edit, rename, attach files, replace/delete files within your pages'. So a certain amount of privacy would be available on certain pages (agencies, players etc) but we'd leave it open on pages that affect everyone (cities, factions etc.)

We are basically talking about creating our own wikipedia for this game. But we definitely should create a page for wikipedia, we used to have one but it got deleted.

Now, another point of view would be the concerning the Admin's views. While we could have a wiki page, there needs to be a limitation of information we allow the public eye to see should they do a search on Sleuth.

Main reason being that we don't want to share too much information on the pages should the people want to figure things out in Sleuth themselves. I'm sure the Admin wouldn't want us to share too much information for those who haven't played the game before. It'd be like people taking a test they know the answers to. There's no brain work.

Well I think that's up to the person. Just like now, if you don't want help don't go onto sleuth tips or the other websites that offer tips. We could include spoiler warnings as well.

Actually no, I've just given responses so that everyone can be educated on both sides of the argument. This thread was meant to be a discussion. People have risen potential problems, I've given potential fixes. I'm still very much thinking about the effect that this would have on the current sleuth websites.

Yoyo, I do like the fact that you would have editing rights, that does qualm one of my biggest concerns. I think this is something you can make a go of. If you need any help I'm always willing, just let me know.

Well I obviously have a lot of experience with Wiki's so feel free to grab me anytime Yoyo.

As to the idea of people stealing information from one site as Jas mentions:

So I think you can interpret Jas' comments to actually mean: steal anything you want from any site without asking permisssion.
