Had a bit of an 'oops' come up. Over the last 2 weeks, I"ve been dealing with a rather excruciating migraine. Standard meds have done little to help. After several trips to the E.R., I suffered a fall and blow to my head, and briefly passed out. After extensive tests, MRIs and CAT scans, the doctors found a small thrombosis, or blood clot, in my brain.

I've had a stroke.

I was released from the hospital yesterday, and am now recovering at home. The doctors are treating the stroke aggressively, and working very hard to prevent a repeat occurrence. I have a great medical team, and my family has been wonderful through all of this.

I greatly appreciate all of your encouragement and support. It's going to take time for me to get back on my feet, and your interest and caring will be invaluable to me. I thank you for that!!

Hope all of you are doing well. Again, thank you. ;-)

You should have heard her the day she came home from the hospital. :-s Believe me, you mightn't have been worried enough!

But I totally agree, she sounded terrific on the radio show. Nice and strong! It was fantastic to hear. :-)

Thought I'd do a bit of a status update....;-)

It's been some 18 months post stroke now. I've been a bit busy the last couple of weeks cause the doctors have had me scurrying about to different places running a whole bunch of different tests. (They've been doing this off and on since May--the official One-Year mark.) Just had two MRIs, several X-rays, and a couple different blood test panels.

Anyway, long story short:

They're downgrading me from High-Priority to standard monitoring. ;-D ;-D ;-D

What's that mean??

I am now officially off of all prescription blood-thinners, and have been prescribed to aspirin therapy now (an extremely major step down in treatment for me). My migraines have been officially been declared "under control," although unfortunately not completely eradicated. The blood clot that caused the stroke has 'significantly diminished in size, and is allowing normal blood flow throughout the brain.' All the arteries and veins in my head, neck, heart, and spine are at normal size, and there's no sign of clogging or obstruction anywhere (besides the above mentioned much smaller clot ;-). And lastly, there's no indication, either now or in my previous bloodwork, of any Deep Vein Thrombosis, Peripheral Artery Disease, or other forms of vascular or clotting problems.

(Aren't ya glad you asked? ;-)

So. Barring another 13-day catastrophe (rubbing the Lucky Tummy that that doesn't happen anytime this millenium ;-), the docs have cut me loose, and only want to see me the usual twice a year, or if there's a problem.

Can we say, "YYYYYYYYYYAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYY??"

;-D ;-D ;-D

Breit

P.S. -- I also just wanted to say Thank You!!!!! to all the people who have given me so much support and love over the last 18 months. It's meant more than anyone can know. I truly wish I had the words to be able to express my gratitude to all of you (though I doubt I would've been able to come up with them before last year anyway). Again, thank you. ;-D

What can one say, only that you are GREAT!
What can one do other than just love you?
How is it possible to not leap of joy when one is allowed to hear this kind of great news?
I wish you as much good luck and health that you can possibly bear!
If possible, please say bye to the migraine from me as well ;-)
