As an unsub on both Noir and SoM, I can honestly say that I like Noir better. In fact, when deciding on what game to play tonight, I went straight to Noir. Didn't even think of SoM. That is...until I got to the boards.

I'm not saying that I don't like SoM...I just have to be in the mood to play it. But most of the time, I would rather play Noir.

I love both games! Don't think it has to be a matter of one is better than the other.

For myself, I am concentrating on SoM at the moment. I love being a newbie again and the differences in getting skills and contacts, time limits, etc. I can do Noir's AI cases in my sleep. I think I have done quite a few in my sleep as a matter of fact! So for me, the pattern of Noir cases is what's keeping over in Shades. There is a bunch of us guessing on the magic number to open the THs when they start and so have been seeing people working different strategies and some people doing nothing. We'll see who guessed right in the end. I just feel like SoM is more dynamic right now. But I'll be back in a heartbeat to jump on the Sleuthetania when she launches :)

I use to be addicted to Noir for over a year but I find that SOM is a LOT better.

Maybe its all the pretty colors...

Well definetly noir...!
Why?
Well because of factions, locations in the world, the whole noir thing (of course, reminds me of Humphrey),etc.
Sure shades have better graphics, and more game play options, but this is still the one and only,of course shades arent bad either...
so...
Noir 5/5
Shades 4.5/5

The conversations in the message boards seem more grown up in Noir. Which, of course, is better for grown-ups :) Probably the reason why I keep coming back (besides the excellent game).

I just logged onto Shades for the hell of it and almost vomited when I read the Gumshoe Lounge posts. It literally made me ill, I'm not being a drama queen.

So i guess my point is.... Sinus I 1000% agree with you. I did the Shades thing for a while, and now I am back in Noir full force. If anyone doesn't believe me.... go over to Shades and check out the message boards. It's like the worst summer we ever had in Noir - on crack or glue or whatever kids are doing these days...

Ha, just read your post Nicnic so I had to scamper over and read some messages at Shades. All I can say is:

Hi, whas up? Anyone want to be my friend?

I think it would be better if we had mods on there, but anyone that was on here is mostly too busy. And the new SoM players haven't really started a community or haven't been around long enough to gain mod status.

We do the best we can on there yoyo, you saw for yourself some of the crap we all had to put up with from the unamed few:). Even though I don't play shades anymore i do try to go on and keep an eye on the boards. I would love a sticky on the top of gumshoe over there just for friends so the rest can be deleted. Just imagine how empty the board would be then lol. I think the problem is though the players generally over there are a lot younger than over here and it seems they think the only way to comunicate is by asking for friends instead of providing any intellectual conversation.
