I am thinking about creating a shameless copy of Serges' great game, I will be posting this on SoM and Noir but I'm not exactly 100% sure which one to do all the voting etc on. Now what I really want to know is if there is interest for this game and if so is there a sleuth or two that can help me out with setting up a league table, counting votes, or something of the like.

Am I understanding this correctly? The premise of this "contest" is that I try to convince people that I am better than the person you matched me against and then hope other people agree and vote for me?????

Thanks for the nomination but count me out. BTW, I won't vote either.

Thanks for the nomination but please count me out. This sounds suspiciously like a popularity contest.

If you'll read the thread from last year, this was originally designed to be a recognition of the leaders of the community. Every one of the participants deserves to win, no matter where they eventually place. Some will inevitably call it a popularity contest, and some will probably even try and turn it into one.

The question is, will the community allow it to happen, or will they help keep this in the spirit it was intended to be, a fun way of showing those who may not know these people who they are and why they deserve to be recognized.

Only you can answer that. Will you?

I'd like to thank those who nominated me (again) to participate in this tournament. It's been an honour to be a part of the community, and a privilege knowing all of you, especially Lil and Ani. Thank you. ;-D

And yes, I'm delighted to take part in this, and Good Luck to ALL the participants. Thanks, also, to Yoyo and his helpers, for sponsoring this. You're doing a great deal of work, for very little. Thank you!! ;-)

lol. yes. the theory is I believe that you don't advocate for yourself, in so much as other people have the opportunity to advocate for you.

Just gives people a chance to say in public what they might never get round to saying otherwise. I think generally speaking it was a pleasant enough experience for all concerned.

Anyone who cares to take the time to read the old post will see a lot of people making positive affirming statements of appreciation about their fellow sleuths. [Something sadly lacking apart from the general 'rah rah siss boom bah' about highest scores and such.]

That's something we can all support and participate in, regardless of our feelings about 'popularity contests'.

I personally won't enter, but I will take the opportunity to say good things about people that deserve to have good things said about them, regardless of the setting.

Well said by both of you. I look at this slightly different as I was just getting back to the game last year. I look at it as an oopportunity to get some others more involved in the community, hence my nominations for some of the "lesser known" players. I have met those players recently and think they would have the same kind of fun that I do getting out and "meeting" others in the community.

Like Breit, I am also delighted to participate in this. I think it's gonna be fun, especially after all my team in the real March Madness get knocked out! ;-)

My first thought was: popularity contest. My second, bearing in mind I have NO WAY of winning such a contest, was that it could be quite good fun. Fact is, I don't really know anyone apart from a few people mainly in my agency whom I've got to know over time.

So I see this as an opportunity to have some fun! Personally I'll vote for anyone with a sense of humour...

I think this will be fun. I never heard of this, then again, I wasn't here last March :D

I can't wait to see the madness...
