Yeah, the limerick sure is an art form. Is it YOUR art form? Show us!

Yes, it's the Sleuth Limerick contest. Let's get all the icky rule stuff out of the way.

* Limerick should be about Sleuth Noir OR a murder mystery OR about a detective or crime.

* You can put in as many entries as you like :)

* Entries must follow standard limerick rhythm and rhyming patterns (see example below)

* Limericks are usually, historically speaking, vulgar. Let's not go that route in this contest, thanks.

* Spelling counts, etc. As always.

* Entries must be posted by 11:59 PM server time on December 31, 2007

There are prizes to be had!! Happy, happy prizes, all waiting for YOU, yes, YOU! to win them.

* Subscribed winner(s) will receive Sleuthcash. Yay, sleuthcash! Who wants to be a millionaire? YOU DO! (okay, just for the record, I'm not giving away a million dollars in Sleuthcash - more like $100,000)
* Unsubscribed winner(s) will receive a one month gift subscription and $50,000 Sleuthcash. WOOT!

Example:

This example was written by that famous author, Anonymous. Okay, fine, I wrote it. :-P

There once was a tough but smart chump
Whose client was charmingly plump,
He tracked down the killer -
T'was Thomas, the miller!
Thus breaking his false accuse slump.

If you need more information about the rhythm, try this (ripped right from Wikipedia): "There WAS a young MAN from the COAST;" "There ONCE was a GIRL from DeTROIT..."

Basically, syllable-wise, 8,8,6,6,8 with a rhyme scheme of A,A,B,B,A

So, FINALLY.... although I really hate to break up the lewd-limerick-sing-a-long!

First of all, congratulations and thank you to everyone who entered, once again putting their wits, imagination, and talent to work!

First place went to Stooby (and poor Fred)! Yay, Stooby :)

Second and Third place went to our second place tie (they get to argue over who is second and who is third, but no extra points for arguing in verse). So, Phoenix Shadow (the kissing detective!) and Brick84 (who needs to wash his dishes) can slug it out. I'll make popcorn.

Honourable Mention: Once again, Y'all Can Call Me Bucky made us laugh with his down-home, philosophical look at life and livestock and hats. Congrats, Bucky, and say hi to Missy and the kids for us. :-)

Honourable Mention: To Mister Bushytail Squirrelpants, who shall henceforth be known as "He Who Makes Judges Snarf Beverages All Over Their Screens And Keyboards". Yeah, it wasn't just me this time - you'll be getting cleaning bills from the other judges, too.

And a huge thank you to the "Absolutely Fabulous" Cordelia Falco, and "Miss Fly Me To The Moon" Ima Vagabond!!

Recap without all the chatter:

1 - Stooby
2/3 - Phoenix Shadow and Brick84

Hon. Mentions - Bucky and SS

Judges - Cordelia Falco, Ima Vagabond, moi

Again, congratulations to the winners!! Go, you!!

My accpetance speech as follows.... I blame it all on the writers strike I hear they are having in the land of those states that united and threw our tea into the sea.... (remember to insert sobs at appropriate points...)

I would like to thank the great Radio 2 breakfast show with Sir Wogan and the Deadly voice of the balls for all the chatter that makes me giggle about the sheds.

I would liek to say a big na na na na na to Greebo who gave me a funny look when I read that out to her...

And a big ta muchly to all the entrants. Along with the Once Upon a Noir contest this was my favourite to enter and to read. What a tallented bunch everyone is... can anyone who's good at the more lewd limeriks now stick a few up to make us giggle :-)

Congrats peoples. lol all my lewd limericks wouldn't slip into the code of conduct, and we couldn't have that now :D

However I do have one about a bushy-tailed cousin of mine...

A Squirrel who lived in from Devizes,
Had Nuts of two quite different sizes.
One was quite small,
almost nothing at all.
But the other was big and won prizes.
