We've got some book related news for all you bibliophiles out there:

There is now a list of the top book collectors in the high scores list. Finding all the books is one of the more time consuming aspects of the game, so I figured it would be good to give some recognition to those who've spent the time to get a lot of them.

Also,

The two newest books out there are both collections of entries from community contests run in Message Board Games by our editor, Anikka:
* 50 Words or Less Stories
* Mystery Haiku

Good luck searching for them!

Thanks all you wordy authors, and also thanks to Anikka for compiling these two important editions to the Sleuth library.

nephi...hannah...ellipsis...elliptical-training-Susie...Mary Glass...whatever your new/next/nifty name is...

I agree with you, a little. Buying a book is not the same as reading one. Just as speaking to a community is not the same as helping it.

How 'bout if you are only allowed to hit your period key three times once per message board post? Like, until you've proved you won't abuse it and irritate people with your inability to type and inhale at the same time? That seems equally relevant (dot dot dot).

I really think this is a good idea. The exercise in restraint could be really beneficial for all the sleuths out there who have finger-seizures every time they get near their keyboard.

Can I just ask how a guy who has been around under multiple names for a long while feels like he can justify stripping points away from newer people?

Some of your ideas have been very interesting, Nephi. I'm just confused why it seems like you need to stir the pot so much, and tick people off.

If you're so concerned about earning books through some other means than buying them, why not start doin' a few missions, or other special accomplishments, and you might just find a few yourself.

And if you feel the compulsion to give an advantage to Subscribed detectives who can complete 'longer' mysteries (I'm assuming you're talking about Scripted and Featured Mysteries here), feel free to start writin', and come up with a mystery or two on your own.

I'll be waitin' with baited breath for that.... :-/

It must be hard to think in run-on sentences. You and your overstuffed prescription cabinet have all my sympathies :)

You said:

"...i haven't taken anything from anyone..."

But then again you also said:

"all presently acquired books should be deleted as of jan 1, 2008"

So, even though you haven't taken anything, you'd enjoy the game more if the system would take stuff away from other people for you.

passive...aggressive...much...?

It must be hard to want something and lack the social capacity to make it happen on your own (dot dot dot).

Coming up with new ideas for people to bounce around and build off of is a good thing.

Coming up with new ideas that involve taking things away from people who already have them is not such a good thing, and a good portion of the community will resent it.

I spent my own hard-earned money on the books I bought. I spent my own precious time building up status with various factions to have those books available to me at the prices for which I obtained them.

Now times that by the however many thousand people that have also invested their time and money.

Now, seriously, check out the window and see how close the lynch mob is.

I loved the Sleuth ship idea. This one? Not so much.

Considering that all in-game money is earned by accomplishing in-game goals, I'm not sure why solving a single mystery would be any more appropriate of a requirement for getting a book than purchasing one is.

Having said that, I'm not opposed to offering new books as prizes for certain mysteries, say Almost Impossible level, or else a particular Scripted/Featured mystery.

So if I were to get my act together and write my second Scripted Mystery you'd consider having a prize attached? Ooh great :-)

Also has ANYONE found the new books, debate asside as to how they are earned I still haven't got a clue how to find the 2 new ones!
