Bug or Detective Error?

So here is the situation:

I'm doing an IH case. I have used research to eliminate a suspect. However, I was unable to find a match to one of my PE, and the fortune teller told me that I still have someone else to talk to. Is this a bug or am I just not thinking clearly?

You should have either 8 or 9 suspects in an IH Case. You have another person to find at least if the FT is telling you you're not done.

Thanks biggie.

I just want to clarify something though. So even if research does eliminate a suspect, it doesn't necessarily mean that the suspect list is complete? I swore I read on the board somewhere that you can't research your case unless you've found all your suspects.

That is correct bandaid. You can eliminate a suspect by research as soon as the suspect randomly chosen by the Sleuth Gods to be researched pops up on your list. It does not mean that your list of suspects is complete.

For further clarification - the only way to know if your suspect list is complete is by consulting your local Fortune Teller. They have a very strong union, you know.

Well you also know your list is full if you have reached the maximum amount of suspects for the level of case you are solving.

Yes, of course, but why waste unnecessary questions to find out, especially when you get to AI cases. It's definitely worth the $20 it costs to consult the Fortune Teller.

In other words, if you check with the Fortune Teller when you get to minimum number of suspects possible for the level of case you are working, you don't have to waste anymore questions on that subject, leaving you more questions if you have to try to get Witness Evidence out of your suspects.

To clarify on the research issue:

You can research anytime after you have at least 1 suspect. You do not need smart gear for this. You will not get a "result" unless you have the research skill and have the suspect on your list who was with the police/in court.

I recommend researching often! Just because you get a result with your researching doesn't make your suspect list complete.

After you id the suspect who was with the police/in court, ask them for more possible suspects - unless you know for certain that you have a complete list.

I agree with SS that it's a waste of questions trying to get the max number of possible suspects each time. If I know I can id my PE, I just get enough suspects to have all of my fake/no alibis. If I think I'm gonna need WE, then I'm looking for all of my suspects.

If you do not get Lock Pick twice, you also do not have a full list of suspects - unless you are below the Hard or Really Hard level. I cannot remember which.

I think what Honey meant is that you sometimes don't need to pay the fortune teller because you get lucky and the last person you ask gives you enough names that makes asking the fortune teller pointless. (Like with AI cases you have 8 suspects you ask one of them and, woo hoo!, they give you 3 suspects and you know you can't have anymore.)
