This thread is for ideas, suggestions, proposals, etc. NO idea is too silly to mention :) although some might be too impractical to implement.

As possibilities become probabilities, I will create another thread for the Con itself and concrete facts/decisions/information.

Sounds like he may have experienced this himself, with the exception of the prom dress, but maybe not! Maybe we will find out next year at Sleuthcon 11

*wishes he had never sold his dress from sleuthprom*

It was just magnificent. I knew, almost instantly, that that Prince song 'The Most Beautiful Girl in the World' was all about me. Then I figured he'd only want to see me (Baby) in the Purple Rain, and short of another Chernobyl incident that's not gonna happen again, so I just gave up.

Biggie: just because your chesticle-restraint devices fail over the shrimp cocktail, causing him to lose an eye, doesn't 'technically' make it a blind date. But yeah I have.

You look nice in blue.

Well, if you do ever want to look into West Coast, Portland is great! I've lived here and would be able to help out any way I can. I know many people who host events successful events, we have plenty of venue options of all costs and sizes. There's always a hotel nearby, and for those who like to save a more money, cheaper motels are easy to find as well. We have one of the best and most reliable public transpertation systems in the nation (this comes from experienced travelers, not just me). It's also a wonderful city to just visit for vacation- which is something I do when I travel to conventions like these, I cannot afford it unless I am doing a full blown vacation with the lack of ability to take the time off. If you would consider this, I could be very helpful with dates on other events going on in town for those who like to sightsee and whatnot.

I would love to visit the GREAT NW, if cost effective and if the timing is right. Prom dress, let's see, maybe I can dig one up, if you know what I mean............to be continued!

::chuckles:: ok, people. one last chance to put in your vote. We've talked about West Coast, Midwest and East Coast. We've done East Coast and the last concensus I had was for Midwest this next year. IF West Coast was chosen, I would by default have it in Portland, OR as that is closest to me.

In seriously considering Vegas, I have to note the same concerns that some of you voiced with the potential choice of GenCon as our mileu. In that the place itself would take away attention from why we are there. And this is NOT the type of 'gaming' we have in mind for SleuthCon II. ::grins::

At this point in time we have the following choices:

Private cabins in Ohio (dates to be determined)
These are private 'cabins' which are actually lodge sized and can hold up to 20 people each. Drawbacks at this time are a lack of internet and cellphone service. This could change by next year.
Advantages are that it's a private, beautiful setting where we could all be together and actually spending time getting to know one another ::grins::

GenCon in Indianapolis (August 2008)
Drawbacks are that this is a LARGE gaming convention and concerns have been raised that Sleuth would be lost in it. Other concerns voiced were concerning lodging, which is handled by the convention itself. Advantages are the visual 'advertising' for Sleuth itself as well as more amenities.

Arlington, Texas (will look up dates again)
There is a small gaming convention that would be happy to include us. It's also a Six Flags resort area. If an area is chosen that is a Six Flags resort area, there is a detective here who is able to offer a reduced rate/free 3 day weekend in return for a tour or 'testimonial'. You would go through her for lodging in that case.

Portland, OR (dates to be determined)
This is the only West Coast choice I will offer at this time. My understanding from prior polls is that Midwest is the preferred choice for this year.

However, if you get enough consensus for West Coast, I can change that lol. And Alleluia is correct. Portland is one of the most beautiful cities in the country and does have one of the best transit systems in the nation with buses, trams and trains. Hotels/Motels are reasonable for the most part, and there are lots of them near the airport. And if you don't like that I can drag everyone over to the beach with me.

But, I believe current consensus for West Coast is that it will be SleuthCon III (2009)

I was given one other request and that is for Saturn. I'm told the rings are quite lovely during August when the meteor showers strike them repeatedly.

So, Please give me your choice(s). At this time dates are looking to be either the last weekend in June, or mid-August. So, let me know your preferences on that as well.

Once I have all of your responses, the committee will go over all the information and make a decision. I'll then send our proposals to Ben and Sunny for their input/approval.

1st choice Vegas, 2nd choice Portland, 3rd choice tahiti (kidding) could not afford that one. Let's keep Sleuthcon II on it's own, don't want share. Mid August would be great.

Not sure if you wanted PMs or posts, so I thought I'd post. Just getting back from Italy, I'd have to say my first choice would be Florence, but since that has the same chance as Saturn for winning, I will head back into reality.

My vote goes to either Texas or Indy. The lack of communications and people who would cook and make my bed for me makes Ohio a less than appealing choice. Whichever dates work best for the majority will work for me.

I would really like it to be in Portland since I live in McMinnville and its the easiest to get to, but if it had to be in the midwest, why not go with dragoncon in Lousiana,I belive that's what its called . For me that would be easy because my family members would chip in to send me there and I would be bringing someone new to Sleuth.
