Is it more beneficial to just get equipment through favors, or do people find buying equipment from factions is also a good option? I have gotten some decent equipment from favor cases I completed, but I'm thinking of buying an item and I'm just not sure I want to spend the money to do it. I always buy books when I can, but I wasn't sure about equipment. Thanks.

Favors tend to be the best way to go. They are usually worth the same or better than what you find at the store and the store wants twice what you get for selling the same item.

Several of the items available at the store are favor rewards as well.

I agree with cfm, items at the detective store aren't very good and are over priced.

However, I have found several faction items to be well worth the cost. I wouldn't be the stylish lady I am today without my knee high stilettoe boots and bulldog hat pin...items I bought as soon as I could and treasure them even now. Just remember to make sure your standing with said faction is at least 30 points, in order to get the biggest discount.

Happy shopping ;)

I agree with cfm about the detective store, but some of the items you get for favors do not give as high a bonus as some of the items you can buy at the factions. If you get +30 with the factions, your price for the equipment they sell is at its lowest. While still very expensive, you can get items that are up to +6 for either smarts, charm or tough. Several websites (through the sleuth community sites in City hall) have the listing of all equipment. Go to this site to see the equipment each faction sells and the status bonus it gives. Then you can decide if it is worth the cost.
