When you suscribe, you can save money and start an agency... You can get the gear you want, the equipment you want, even the players you want to make it your own. If your suscribtion runs out, you can still stay there and use your equipment, your message board, and most of the perks of being in an agency.

If you save money and buy some tough gear, it's nice, it fits your detective just right. It's nice that you have invested in something good. Now if your suscribtion runs out, you still have the gear... No one comes over to you and says, sorry buddy but even though you paid for that, you can't use it anymore...

Well, I got the shock of a lifetime today. My suscribtion ran out today and I logged in as usual to go and see my message board in my appartment to see that I'm not allowed to go in as i'm not subed anymore...Now i've invested over a million dollars in my place to make it my own, unique style. It fits my detective to a tee. To make it worst, I have numerous items stored in my appartment worth a lot of money. The issue is not the resubing, as I'm planning to resub shortly but I feel that I was robbed here. I could have understood having my case file blocked like an agency but no access???

I can't help to feel like this is a double standard. It's ok if you do that with an agency but not with an appartment...I already have my answer from the Admin but frankly, i'm really disapointed in his response... I guess i could'nt keep this inside and needed to put it out there to see what the community thought.

Thanks for listening,

Raven.

While I appreciate the supportive words, I really wasn't fishing for sympathy. I was just trying to be clear about where we are currently at with Sleuth.

We really like doing this, and most of our interactions with Sleuth players have been really positive experiences.

We believe that Sleuth has a bright commercial future ahead of it and we partly view the work we put into it as an investment in that future.

That said, we personally fund Sleuth and do not have deep enough pockets to run things at a financial loss. Therefore, Sleuth needs to pay its own costs, and nearly all of Sleuth's revenue comes from subscription fees.

I'm sure everybody has their own ideas about what the right way to Sleuth is, and many of those suggestions have been useful in the past, but what we are trying to accomplish is actually a very difficult thing to do. For all of the press that casual games and web gaming has gotten recently, the number of commercially successful browser games is shockingly short and the number of large companies that have lost money in this sector is quite long.

I understand that Sleuth needs subs to pay for the running of the servers and other expenses an online game oocur. I am also aware that a paragraph in my post was petty and narky and if a Mod feels the need to delete it, go ahead.

However, I don't think what I was saying was petty and narky. How can a new player to Sleuth sub for a month, get an agency and leave their sub to lapse while older players like Dark Raven whom have subbed on and off as long as they have been playing (850) lose out like this?

Ben, Sunny, sorry about my narky remarks. They're were an over reaction.
However, I do think it's unfair that a player such as Marc is penalised in this way. It does stink. I'm sorry but that's how I feel.
Now, if this were a 100 day old person who had subbed for all of a month or even three months, I'd tell them to go to hell, that their sub gets them a lot, that this community alone is worth the sub costs.

I don't see why there can't be some Most Valuble Player status or something.. What if Carrie Mehome or Woody had written this most? I would have just as upset. They're players that have been around for a long time and have paid there dues and I think this is unfair. And like I said, there are games that reward their older players or players that have subbed numerous times before.

So, I stand by what I meant (rather than how I said it. Once again, Ben and Sunny, I am sorry for that.) I think it is very unfair that a player such as Dark Raven while unsubbed cannot get into his very expensive apartment.

*looks sheepish*All the good, truly rewarding, joyful things [and they are too numerous to mention] that Sleuth has given me will *always* outweigh the minor petty things that annoy me.

Nicely put SS, thanks for the wake up call.

I think Lady Ruby's point is pretty valid... Somebody IS there paying for so long to keep sleuth running. I think few veterans should get some VERY special priviledges....

For clarification purposes...

I didn't want to cause a big fight on the board... As far as subbing, i am planning to resub so I'm not complaining about having lost my stuff permenantly... Roamie, I agree with you that the fees are not a big investment for sure. The whole concept that I was upset with, like I pmed to Sunny when she PMed me was about how you buy something (for a very expensive price i might add) and have it taken away... People have different opinion of this game and I respect that. I still enjoy the game, as i've had a long time ago (850 days ago to be exact). But this game is based on a community and it should be open to feedback and that was mine... I appreciate everybodies's support / feeback / critiques...

Hi Raven,

I don't have any problem with your bringing it up here. I see your point, particularly since you weren't aware that you would lose access to your apartment until resubbing.

We'll think about this a bit. At the least, we should better warn players before buying an apartment that this may be the case.

I disagree that "veteran" players should have any perks, other than having more experience and skills, obviously. Just because I've been around 1000 days more than someone else doesn't mean my $7 should get me anymore than their $7.

I stand behind the notion that when you become unsubscribed, you should lose all of your subscribed privileges. I'm not even sure I agree that you should be allowed to remain in an agency... although I'm not going to argue that one, since it has been around in Sleuth since BETA ended.

I just think that when you are unsubscribed after being subscribed, you shouldn't be treated any differently than those who have never subscribed.

I agree with biggie; whatever Ben or Sunny do is ALWAYS in the best interest of the game. They've been right more than they have wrong (The ability to store favors in case files, detective resumes).

Just my two cents.

While we do not believe there was anything wrong with the old rules, we realize that some people who purchased apartments did so without understanding that they would only be able to access them while their subscriptions remained active.

With that in mind, we've reviewed this issue and decided to make a change regarding apartment owners who's subscriptions lapse.

From now on, if your subscription runs out you will be allowed to enter your apartment, use your furniture, access items and case files stored there.

However, you will not be able to do any of the following:
* Buy Furniture
* Sell Furniture
* Redecorate
* Move to a different city or unit
* Invite new guests or uninvite current guests

Let me know if you have any questions regarding this rule change.
