There is a new version of chat up that will hopefully address some of the problems we've been having with unsociable behavior.

Click on a user's name in the list to the right to access one of these new functions:

1) Whisper a private message to that user.
2) Ignore all messages from the user for the remainder of the session.

Mods and Admins now have the ability to boot out disruptive users as well. Booted users will not be allowed to re-enter chat for 24 hours.

Hope this helps.

I have access to the functions in Firefox and IE. Your version of flash needs to be the most updated for it to work though. It is version 9.0.28.0 and is available at:

Actually, the new chat features will work on Flash version 8 or higher.

And it has been tested on the following browsers:
IE (5, 6 and 7), Firefox (1 and 2), Opera (9.00), Netscape (8), AOL Explorer (1.5)
I haven't tested it on Safari, or any Mac clients yet.

The confusing bit is that some browsers are VERY stubborn about caching old versions of a flash movie, and refusing to download the new version from the Sleuth site.

Suggested fixes if new features don't work for you:

1) hold down CTRL-SHIFT and click the refresh button while on the chat page.
2) close all your browser windows. Then open one up and login again.
3) have your browser delete all your private/temporary files.
4) some combination of #2 and #3.
5) give up and wait a couple days. Most browsers will eventually desist and grab the latest chat client.

6) as suggested by others, updating your flash player will probably also clear out your local flash cache, so that should work as well.

Lady Jas,

If there is no mod in the chat room, you can use the ignore button. It's as good as a boot because you won't have to see anything else that person says.
