Built in 1880, near the beginning of the Gilded Age, its mahogany walls were still in very good condition. The gilding on the marble columns was just starting to peel and the imported Oriental rugs did show some wear but all in all a very nice place to stay.

Many important people have stayed there due to the excellent food, courteous service, and a certain amount of discretion afforded by the management. Many important people still do, however due to the unwillingness of the management to cooperate with the press, this cannot be confirmed.

The hotel's low profile helps keep it a bit obscure which is what attracts the rich, powerful, and those who want to hide in style.

Barry had come back to his room after leavng Becky to recover in the hospital. He was exhausted and Becky needed her rest too. He left her sleeping and in very capable hands to go and rest himself. He didn't remember getting from Becky's room to his bed in the hotel because his mind was spinning from his recent realization but he was awfully glad to see the pillow.

He had been sleeping for about 3 hours when the phone rang. He was still a little groggy when he answered it but managed to recognize the soft voice on the other end of the line from his days at The Closers.

"Amber?! Is that you?" Barry was very happy to hear a familiar voice but he was still tired so he made plans to meet her for dinner. After he hung up, he wrote on the pad by the phone, "Amber, 7:30, downstairs" and then fell back asleep.

Amber looked at the clock on the wall of her hotel room. She would be meeting Barry for dinner in ten minutes.

She looked at herself one last time in the mirror. Amber was thankful she packed her ruby red gown. She loved the satiny feel and she was very pleased with how it looked on her. Satisfied with her appearance, Amber picked up her purse and headed for the elevator.

Amber stepped into the empty elevator. Nervously, her fingers twirled strands of her long brown hair. She was looking forward to seeing Barry again and hopeful that he could help her reconnect with Becky.

Amber stepped off the elevator and into the main lobby. There he was waiting. Barry was as handsome as ever. She gave him a soft smile as she walked towards him.

Barry saw the elevataor doors open and saw Amber step out dressed in one of the most beautiful dresses he'd ever seen. Her long brown hair cascaded down past her shoulders and perfectly framed her face. He did not remember her being this beautiful but then again, they only saw each other around the office when they were working together at The Closers.

Barry smiled back at her and bent down a bit as she strained to give him a peck on the cheek. Her 5'2" height against Barry's 6'2" was making it difficult for Amber to deliver her greeting. "Barry," peck, "So good to see you."

"And it's great to see you, too, Amber." Barry grasped her hand in a warm handshake. "I don't recall ever seeing you in this dress while I was at The Closers." This made Amber blush. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to embarass you. I just meant that you look very beautiful tonight."

"Thank you, Barry. Where will we be dining tonight?"

"I've reserved a table at '21'. We should be able to talk privately and enjoy a very fine meal." Barry offered his elbow to Amber which she took and he led her out into the dark streets of NY.
