Built in 1880, near the beginning of the Gilded Age, its mahogany walls were still in very good condition. The gilding on the marble columns was just starting to peel and the imported Oriental rugs did show some wear but all in all a very nice place to stay.

Many important people have stayed there due to the excellent food, courteous service, and a certain amount of discretion afforded by the management. Many important people still do, however due to the unwillingness of the management to cooperate with the press, this cannot be confirmed.

The hotel's low profile helps keep it a bit obscure which is what attracts the rich, powerful, and those who want to hide in style.

Barry smiled at them and said all questions will be answered later. "Now, where is your mother?" Betty came from the kitchen wiping her hands in a dish towel. "Here I am." Barry went over to her and gave her a peck on the cheek. "I hope you're hungry. I slaved over your favorite roast chicken recipe all day!" she said playfully.

"Sis, anything you make will be absolutely delicious." Barry wanted to ask where her good-for-nothing husband was but thought a question like that should not be asked in front of the children. Instead, he said, "And I'm ready to eat whenever it's ready."

Betty smiled, "That's my brother!" she then remembered that Andrea was there. "I also knew you would be happy to see Andrea." She looked over at Andrea and motioned her to come in and sit down.

Barry got up and escorted Andrea to the couch and sat next to her. "Betty, you, of course, are right." Barry was looking into Andrea's eyes to try and see if he could figure out what she was thinking. He was having difficulties. "Andrea? Would you like a Tom Collins? Betty makes a terrific one." At that Betty blushed but no one noticed. Barry was looking into Andrea's eyes and Andrea was looking into Barry's eyes. The kids were looking at Andrea and Barry looking at each other. "I know I could use a drink."

Andrea was glad to see Barry away from the hotel and the prying eyes of the nurses and guards. She thought that he looked very good. She liked the way his eye looked now. Somehow, it made him even more charming. She sighed. What a handsome devil. She never could stay mad at him for long.

"Thank you, luv" - she said, with a wink, she reluctanty tore her eyes away from him - "But I think I'll wait and just have some wine with dinner. I have been here for a while and the aromas emanating from Betty's kitchen is almost more than I can bear!"

Betty blushed yet again. But she was happy to see her brother in good spirits. It was obvious that he had deep feelings for this woman. She had always liked Becky, but the more time she spent with Andrea, the more she grew to like her. It was obvious she had feelings for him as well. She put her life on hold while he was at the hospital. And from what she understood, this was one dedicated gal. She hoped they could work that out.

"Well, then, let's eat!" - Betty said. She and the children were seated, but both of them insisted on seating next to Barry, which left Andrea on the other side of the table next to Betty. She did not at all mind.

Dinner was delicious and the chatter of the children made it all the more lively. Andrea relaxed and enjoyed it.

When they were done, dishes stacked, and leftovers put away; Andrea decided it was time to make her leave.

"Betty, I want to thank you. I do not get many chances to eat home-cooked meals" - Andrea moved to hug Betty.

"Anytime you are in time, please stop by and see us" - Betty said with a smile - "You too, Barry!"

Andrea gathered up her coat and purse, unsure of how to say good-by to Barry. She had a lot to tell him, but was reluctant to take him away from his family.

Barry needed to spend some more time with Betty but felt torn about not seeing Andrea to where she needed to go. "Andrea, let me walk you to the door." Barry escorted Andrea to the door and helped her on with her coat. "Andrea, I would very much like to see you to wherever you're headed, but I hope you understand, I need to see family right now."

Andrea looked disappointed but completely understood even though she was hoping he would want to spend more time with her instead. "I know. I don't know how much longer I'll be in town but you can reach me at this number tonight and tomorrow." Andrea handed Barry a card. He took it and put it into his pocket without looking at it. He was looking at her lips.

"I will try to call you tomorrow." Barry said and took a step closer to her. Before hearing her response to that he put his arms around her only this time one hand was behind her head and the other was around her tiny waist. Due to his height over her, he leaned her back a little, all the while holding her to keep her from falling backwards, and kissed her gently and passionately. Andrea dropped her purse and put her arms around his neck. She felt unsteady on her feet in this position but oddly confident that she was safe. She relaxed into it and took advantage of the fact that the kids were already in their rooms getting ready for bed. Barry said, "Do you want me to go down with you to hail you a cab?" He was still holding her.

Steading herself, she looked at him

"No thanks"- she answered - "I have business nearby. I will walk"

She leaned on him again, remembering the past. The she picked up her things and held his hand, even a she was walking away.

"See you soon, darling!" - she said as she walked down the street.

Barry spent more time at his sister's than he anticipated but it was great getting caught up with Betty and eating her delicious cooking. It was pretty late when he got back to his hotel room. He was glad for the comfortable bed and right after taking off his shoes, flopped on top of the covers. Lying there for a little while, he started reviewing the day's events. First his sister, then being surprised by Andrea, then the hair cut. All of a sudden it dawned on him he told Becky he would meet her at the Tricky Mister in a few hours.

"Holy Majoly!" Barry said out loud as he rushed to the phone to call her. He knew she would not be mad if he called so late especially since she knows it would be to apologize. He dialed her apartment. The phone rang and rang and rang. "Hmm. That's strange." Barry thought, "I can't imagine her still being at the Tricky Mister."

Barry dialed the Tricky Mister and spoke to Cyrus. "Yes, I saw a very beautiful blonde woman waiting around but then she started talking to a gentleman who I've never seen before." Barry pressed him. "Yes, I'm pretty sure I've never seen him before..... About 6 foot, blue eyes, wavy black hair.... I remember seeing a tatoo on his right forearm... A shamrock of some sort.... I think there were some initials.... W.H.... No, I don't remember how long they were talking but they left together..... That was about 3 hours ago." Barry thanked him and hung up the phone.

The description of the man was too familiar. He remembered seeing someone like that at the warehouse when he was being worked over. A chill ran down Barry's neck. He sat there for a moment in shock as he began realizing what this could mean. He knew he could not waste another second and picked up the phone to make another call.

But he was interrupted by a tentative knock on his door. Well, that certainly is strange, he thought. Guests are usually announced.
He put the phone down, stood by the side of the door and asked, "Who is it?", rather sharply.

"It's me Barry" - Andrea's voice came from the other side of the closed door.
Barry immediately opened the door, surprised again.

"Andrea! What are you doing here? Are you all right? Is that a bump on your forehead?" - Barry voice kept rising, worry spread all over his handsome face.

Andrea walked in and collapsed on his sofa. Barry rushed to sit near her and held her hand.

"I'm fine, it's nothing. I was out chasing this villain. Lord something or other. It'll come to me in a minute. I was in the middle of this case involving him, when I got run over by a fruit cart and woke up in a room two doors down, with a note warning me off. " - Andrea had a look of contempt on her fact; she hated cowards - "Have you noticed how predictable those villains are? Cowards, all of them. Anyway, as I walked through the lobby, the concierge assumed I was here to see you and told me you had checked into this room. I though I'd come..."

Barry was upset, wanting to destroy the man that had caused her this grief.

"Why were you out so late? Why weren't you more careful? Andrea if something were to..." -Barry stoped. A sharp look in Andrea's face warned him.

"I can take of myself just fine, darling" - Andrea face melted again and she leaned sideways over the arm of the sofa, hiding her face with a hand over her foreheard - "I am just so tired, I am tired of all this pressure. Catching villains, chasing treasure, accumulating fame...It's too much!!"

Tears were running down her face, but she hoped that Barry couldn't see them.

Barry could tell Andrea was pretty shaken despite her objections. She claims to be able to take care of herself but here she is, running to him like a scared child. He found it endearing that she says she’s tough and able but the Barry believed, beneath it all, she’s wasn’t as tough as she claimed. She may never admit it out loud but her actions speak volumes.

The timing could not be worse. Barry was sure Becky was being held by the Winter Hill gang and was abducted by the very man who threw the first punch at him at the warehouse. He didn’t want to tell Andrea that Becky was in trouble because of how Andrea feels about Becky. On the other hand, he could not imagine her wishing Becky or anyone to come to harm. He contemplated asking her to come with him but knowing her feelings on the whole HYDRA issue, and now she has a villain after her, he felt it would be a waste of time.

Just then the phone rang. Andrea said, “Who could be calling at this hour?”

Barry ran to the phone. “Hello?... Dave, I think they have her….. Did Breit tell you?... Yeah, sorry for waking her up… No, I don’t think we should wait…Any ideas?... Well, they’re not going to take her to that warehouse, the police have it under watch…. What does headquarters say?... I don’t care how many possibilities there are, get me that list.” After a brief pause, Barry hung up the phone.

He had to leave and he would prefer not to tell Andrea why. But not telling her would be lying and he wasn’t going to start now. “Andrea, sweetheart, I’ve got something to tell you that I’m sure you’re not going to like.” Barry paused to look at Andrea’s expression. It revealed nothing. “Becky has been abducted by the Winter Hill gang courtesy of the very man who got the most pleasure out of pummeling me. I have to go. Dave has a list of possible places she could be and I have to start looking for her.”

When Barry stopped talking he could see Andrea slowly realizing what this means and she was getting angry. Forgetting her painful lump, “How did she get herself abducted?” she almost screamed through a tear streaked face. Barry did not want to answer that but he went back to the couch, took Andrea’s hand, and told her why. He finished with, “I would like you to stay here tonight. I think you will be safer. I’ll get room service to bring up some ice for your forehead.” He got up and went to the phone again.

Andrea was dumbfounded. Becky is now going to put Barry back into danger and Barry was running into it! Andrea found a new reason to hate Becky. She tried to remain calm. “Barry? Shouldn’t the police handle this?”

Barry got off the phone with room service and said, “The police have been barely helpful through this whole mess. I don’t want to wait.” Barry could see Andrea start to protest. “I’m sorry Andrea, I can’t sit by when I know someone is in danger and there’s something I can do to help.” He didn’t let her interrupt. “Room service will be here shortly. Take the ice, lock the door, and don’t open it for anyone but me. I’ll be back as soon as I can.”

He saw the shock on Andrea’s face. After all, she was sitting there with a lump on her head and he was running off on a wild goose chase for a woman he claims he no longer loves. He wanted to help Andrea too and take care of that villain now but he was too worried about Becky. Besides, Andrea was safe now. He went over to the couch and kissed her. “I’ll be back as soon as I can.” He then grabbed his coat and hat and headed out to meet Dave.
