Hello, fellow Sleuths!

Over the last two months, I've been working on a brand new Sleuth helper. You might not think that sounds all that special - after all, great helpers are already available - but what makes this one different is that it's automated!

What it does is monitor your progress in the game, and extract relevant information from the pages. The information is stored and analyzed, in order to help you determine who did it, and who didn't.

It's heavily inspired by Evita's JavaScript-based Sleuth Helper, so a special "thank you" goes out there.

The application is made with Delphi 2005, and should run on any machine with Windows NT/98/ME/2K/XP/Vista and Internet Explorer 4 or later. Additionally, source code is included (ZLib license) in case someone wants to port it to another platform and/or language (such as Java).

The program can be downloaded from http://download.birdiesoft.dk/SleuthHelper.exe (330 KB), and a screenshot of the program can be seen at http://download.birdiesoft.dk/sleuth_helper.png.

Please take a look at the help file before using the program (it's very short), so you are familiar with how the program works.

(Disclaimer: The application depends heavily on the current structure of the game pages, and changes to this may break the program. Although the application is designed in such a way that it should fail entirely if something goes wrong, this cannot be guaranteed. Use of this program is entirely at your own risk, and any cases lost because of errors in the program should not be blamed on the program or the author.)

If I happen to be writing a PM when one comes in, the screen flashes and goes to the in box. I've lost everything I've written. Am I special or does this happen to everyone?

Here's an idea for the sleuth helper in it's current environment. Howzabout a "restart case" action. Which deletes all the info about the case while I'm still in it and then opens up the "case" page in sleuth to take in the information anew.

Since it messes up so rarely it hasn't really been a problem. But it's still an idea. As an alternative to saving the case away and then opening it up again. (note, yes, I am writing this because it just messed up for me (everything turned green) and I had to solve the case without the helper for the first time in half a year. Well that or save it away and then opening it again, but that seemed like such a big bother)

Sophie, that would be more of an issue with Sleuth itself.

Dave, your "restart" suggestion has been added for the next version. Not sure when I have time to release it right now, though.

lol oops sorry Tender, I guess I can't ready 'every' post. Bootcamp sucks. All that starting and restarting in the different platfrom. I run *Parallels* when I have to stoop to using a PC program, like when somene sends me a Publisher file I need to delve into:s Its much better imo. And you can run XP like another Mac program... just another window, or 'fullscreen' it for the complete XP feel *gags*. I wouldn't try installing Vista. It's evil on the PC let alone the Mac. But yeah you do need XP (service pack 2) for everything to run smoothly. But I've never had any probs with any PC program over XP through Parallels.

This is more for the you can tell your addicted to Sleuth thread...

Why does the program asks for my password again, even though i am already logged, doesnt that gives the program maker access to all passwords?

The program itself doesn't ask for your password, only Sleuth does (the program CAN log you in automatically when it starts up, but you don't have to do that). There's nothing fishy going on, as the source should prove.

I imagine the reason you need to log in again is a connection or server issue. You might want to make sure you don't have too aggresive a cookie-blocker.
