Hello, fellow Sleuths!

Over the last two months, I've been working on a brand new Sleuth helper. You might not think that sounds all that special - after all, great helpers are already available - but what makes this one different is that it's automated!

What it does is monitor your progress in the game, and extract relevant information from the pages. The information is stored and analyzed, in order to help you determine who did it, and who didn't.

It's heavily inspired by Evita's JavaScript-based Sleuth Helper, so a special "thank you" goes out there.

The application is made with Delphi 2005, and should run on any machine with Windows NT/98/ME/2K/XP/Vista and Internet Explorer 4 or later. Additionally, source code is included (ZLib license) in case someone wants to port it to another platform and/or language (such as Java).

The program can be downloaded from http://download.birdiesoft.dk/SleuthHelper.exe (330 KB), and a screenshot of the program can be seen at http://download.birdiesoft.dk/sleuth_helper.png.

Please take a look at the help file before using the program (it's very short), so you are familiar with how the program works.

(Disclaimer: The application depends heavily on the current structure of the game pages, and changes to this may break the program. Although the application is designed in such a way that it should fail entirely if something goes wrong, this cannot be guaranteed. Use of this program is entirely at your own risk, and any cases lost because of errors in the program should not be blamed on the program or the author.)

I have updated the zip file for those who are unable to reach Pidgeot's site. You can now get the helper from:

http://download.birdiesoft.dk/SleuthHelper.exe

http://one.fsphost.com/sleuth/Helper.zip if the first link is unavailable.

If anyone has trouble getting hold of the helper from either of these sites, send me a PM with an email address which I can email it to.

I used this and it worked fine for me . . . really saves a lot of time. Just one thing - the first time I used it, my PM's came through just fine, but today when I used it, they were blocked . . . Any ideas?

Was thinking about this . . . I got PM"s yesterday that people sent me while I was online. The PM's that were blocked today were PM's that were sent to me while I was offline. Perhaps that has something to do with it?

I'm not really sure what causes that problem, but there seems to be general problems with PMs. The messages don't disappear even though the pop-up does, so you can just log on in your regular browser to view and reply to them. I'll see what I can do about it, but I can't promise anything.

On another note, I've just fixed a few bugs again - including one that messes up evidence matching if you match something to a suspect where you don't know if their alibi is real or fake. The EXE's updated, and I imagine Adam will update his ZIP soon. I imagine he'll post in here when he does so, but until then, you can tell you have the right file if the zipped file is 338721 bytes.

I was wondering if there is any way to code the order of the suspects into the helper. So they show up like they do on your suspect list at the map and case screens.

That would be fairly hard, since they don't seem to follow any specific order on the suspect list. I'll try to look into at least making a way of manually ordering the suspects, however.

Okay, so all the free webhosts hate me :(

I've rehosted the zip on an old website of mine. It should be fine to download from there:

pidgeot, is there a way you can make it an option to manually put in the info, because i find i do cases faster if i don't have to put it in manually as i easily get distracted.

If you want to put in the info manually, I recommend using Evita's helper instead, but I can look into doing it in the helper as well. Might take some time, though.
