I have found that each target on the map is based on a box, and that if you click on the edge of the box all the possible clickable boxes are highlighted (take *that* you followers of American spelling). This is very useful for finding hidden things in the map, such as the Fat Lucy Cabaret if you can't get the instructions. Try it in every city.
