I was just perusing the weekly high scorers (wow! you guys are amazing...) and was wondering just how it is possible to complete so many cases (200+!) in one week. By my count, 7X12 is 84, plus maybe another 4 favors per day - that still only makes 112, if you solved everything. Where are the other 100+ cases coming from?

Ok, since this is starting to get heated, I'm going to take a step back, I just wanted to say that since I didn't see Carrie's post before I posted my last one, I am not and have not ever claimed to be speaking for anyone but myself. Being number one would be nice, but I'm nowhere close to that in any possible example here, so thats sort of a moot point.

Jas, it seems like you are suggesting that game-related discussion and debate are fruitless if they are on the message boards and not voiced directly to the game's creator.

Yes, emailing Ben would ensure that he hears your opinion. But as this is a community, and the sense of "community" is fostered by open and frank discussion about anything and everything from experience points to body parts and ponies.

I'm sorry if you feel this discussion/debate isn't worth discussing/debating in public, but everyone who has posted on this issue has shown they feel that it is, otherwise they would just lurk and not further it.

OK guys don't you think EVERYONE has gone slightly off topic here. The thread started off with a simple question asked by someone to this. I mean no ones saying debating is bad but i mean come on this has gone way past simple debating.

*also guilty of posting while others posted*

That being said, I have expressed by opinion on this, and am also backing away from the conversation. I apologize if my words or implications have offended or appeared to be aimed at offending anyone.

Jas, I will speak to you privately regarding this issue.

Exactly!!! It has gone way beyond debating so that's why you should email Ben.

Serges there is nothing to discuss with you. I have my opinion you have yours. Neither one of us will change that. However it has gotten heated, and Ben does not read the boards regularly. And many feel so strong about this issue that it obviously needs to be adressed. The best thing to do is Email Ben so he can come up with a solution to the problem.

Getting back to the beginning of this thread and the original question asked:

“I was just perusing the weekly high scorers (wow! you guys are amazing...) and was wondering just how it is possible to complete so many cases (200+!) in one week. By my count, 7X12 is 84, plus maybe another 4 favors per day - that still only makes 112, if you solved everything. Where are the other 100+ cases coming from?
That was the only way I figured it was possible, but it seems like it kinda skews the stats, doesn't it? What is the point of high scores, if they don't measure people on at least a reasonably level playing field?”

The issue is, as I see it, the level playing field. Is it a fair comparison when one person accuses on 200+ cases per week, and another only solves the 84 they get with their 12 per day being subscribed?

If it is not a good way to compare scores, what could be changed to make it better?

My opinion is the high scores do not matter to me. My enjoyment of this game is found in the friend I have made, and the achievement I have accomplished, although none show up on any ‘high score’ listing.

I do not have any answer to whether the high scores are a good comparison or if they are skewed. Nor do I have a way to change it. Because the rules do not state you can not use other detectives cases to zoom your score well past other peoples. The unwritten rules do not govern everyone’s game play style and thus differing opinions of what is right and wrong will exist.

I’m not sure there can ever be a level playing field. Some people have more time, more money, and some people have simply played longer. Given that this is a game in which people have been playing for years, it seems like the best way for detectives to measure success is in personal accomplishment and in the competition against others in similar situations and with similar goals and playing styles. The diversity in playing styles this game allows is one of its greatest aspects.

Echoing a comment made by Crunchpatty earlier, high score boards really only reflect how much time individuals and agencies can put into the game. After a certain point, they no longer reflect skill level anyway.

Being a fairly new player and on the top 30 list prematurely, I didn't realize how unhappy it would make some people feel. I have two detectives and I have used one to "feed" the other to "rack-up" my experience points. Not because I wanted to insult others or deceive people into thinking that I was a better player than them. It was more of the competitive nature of mine. I never saw it as unfair or unethical. In addition, I have received free cases from agents who have been either on vacation, working long shifts, computer problems, or many other reasons that they were unable to do their cases. I'll do cases on my own from time to time but alot of them are done in a "quick" fashion just to see the experience points rise. I don't claim to be the most skillful player and I guess I didn't really look at it like that. I was here to have fun and make friends. When others congratulated me, I thought they were being sincere. Not because I'm some great detective but because I have put a lot of time in. Obviously I was wrong!!! Wow, I feel like an idiot now. This is the first time since I started playing that I actually DON'T want to be here. If there were a way to take my name off of the Top 30 list, I would do it. It isn't worth what I'm feeling right now!!! I was just trying to have some fun. I apologize to those who have been offended or who feel cheated by how I have played.
