Hi all,

I have been teaching myself javascript by writing a Sleuth helper page that adapts as you enter in more information.

It's at http://www.angus.demon.co.uk/sleuth/watson.htm

It's ready for beta test (a euphemism for 'it might still contain bugs'), so please try it out and let me know what you think!

I started a new detective so I am doing intermediate cases in my new detective and noticed something about your helper.

I was doing an Intermediate case, and I had three suspects with no alibis so everyone else went to "real". Well guess what... apparently on intermediate cases there can be 4 who don't have alibis because I ended up with an FA and the perpetrator wasn't one of the "no alibi" people but I never bothered to check the alibi because I (and your helper) thought the maximum no/false was 3. I know this isn't the "rule" that we all know because in EVERYONE's little rules about cases, it says there are only 3 for intermediates. But apparently that's not really true. I haven't done intermediate cases in a long time so I'm not really sure how this happened. Just an FYI that you may want to change the rules for intermediates.

Also, something to think about.. It might be helpful to also have a checkbox when you get a hint from a townie that says a certain suspect doesn't know who did it.

Other than that I love your new helper :)

Sorry, to hear you got a false, nicnic, but just to ease your mind, not everyone's little rules about cases has a fixed number of fakes for all the levels - and you're absolutely right that Intermediates can have both 3 AND 4 fakes ;)

My list supports that as well:

"intermidiate case - 6/7 suspects 2/3? fakes after research."

This would mean 3 OR 4 fakes.

The FA was no big deal :) My alter ego was VERY new so it was only a couple hundred to erase it. :)

Ive sent you my list. But Im not totaly sure about the numbers for lower levels. I only started to really pay attention later :P
So if anyone has a double that is new, maybe they can verify the numbers for the lower levels.

I still use it for lower-level cases when treasure hunting and stuff -- the numbers are good :)

i HAVE TO SAY i ENJOY HOW THE HELPER DOES THE MATH FOR YOU!!AND AS LONG AS i AM PAYING ATTENTION WHEN ENTERING THE DATA I HAVE NOT HAD AN ERROR AND THAT INCLUDES WHEN I HAVE ACCUSSED SUSPECTS WITHOUT ACTUALLY GETTING AN ALIBI (CLAMMED UP)FROM THEM, WORKS GOOD WHEN YOU GET ONE WE AND THE SUSPECT MUST HAVE FAKE ALIBI:))

I enjoy this helper too! Too bad you cant save it if you want to continue later. But apart from that it's working great!

But I did notice the helper does the math only when I reached max number of real alibis. If I got max of fakes it doesnt change the rest to real. I had to do this by hand (cases were AI's with 10 suspects).
