LOL In "regular" PC games, your character can often die if you are not alert to the dangers around you - hence, my mantra to my daughter is always "save your game, honey". (When I hear "AAARGH" then I know that she didn't.) Sorry for the confusion
I'm sure (?) Ben wouldn't lay traps that would kill my beloved Hawkeye - probably just inconvenience him and slow him down - perhaps like the pirates? Tinuviel has made it to Cairo, maybe she knows more...

By the time you have the opportunity to learn the Trap Detection skill, it should be fairly obvious what it's used for.
