We made some changes to the villain hunt clues today.

Most of these changes are intended to make them easier to read, and we cleaned up a few clues that were commonly misunderstood.

The bad news is, there were a couple situations where specific co-conspirators/hideouts that were impossible to narrow down to a single option, even with all the clues.

This was my mistake, and I’m really really sorry for the frustration it has caused people. Because of the random nature of these hunts, and the length they can take to complete, these situations were difficult to detect.

The missing clues have been added for those townies, so I’m now confident there are no longer any situations where somebody should have to guess on a villain hunt, as long as they are patient enough to get all the clues.

I copy/paste them and PM them to myself, along with the city, then save it.

I am paranoid enough to print the map and actually draw lines north of the det. shop, south of bank, etc. etc. Also write W (woman) and M (male) next to the townies.

Yeah, I need help, I know it...

I just copy & paste them into WordPad, saving after each clue.

I was attempting another villain hunt despite my horrible experience the first time. I received the following clues in London:

Dragutan "the Dragon" Zhou has set up a hideout with the help of a co-conspirator in London. I don't know the exact location, but I do know the hideout IS NORTH of the detective shop.

Dragutan "the Dragon" Zhou has set up a hideout with the help of a co-conspirator in London. I don't know the exact location, but I do know the hideout IS WEST of the detective shop.

Dragutan "the Dragon" Zhou has set up a hideout with the help of a co-conspirator in London. I don't know the exact location, but I do know the hideout IS NOT close enough to the river to smell it.

After the 2nd clue the choices were reduced to the museum or the library. When I received the 3rd clue I consulted the map of London and saw that the museum is closer to the river than the library so, of course, I tried to capture at the library. Well, if you haven't guessed the rest, I was wrong.

What was the purpose of that 3rd clue, then? It seems to be a misdirection to me. Unless if you experienced villain hunters are going to tell me to only pay attention to the clues with north, south, east, west, male, or female in it, then I'll know better IF I try again.

Your advice will be greatly appreciated.

Barry,

The infamous "river" clues are kind of a sore spot with hunters... they are the most ambigious clue set of any we've seen so far.

The thing to remember though is that just because you have another clue doesn't imply that clue is "helpful" at the time. Neither the museum nor the library could be construed as "close" the the river in-and-of-themselves. You have to remember that the clues operate independently of each other, and it's the junction of clues that provide the right answer.

The clues do not build on each other and come in random order. I have received North of 42nd street, then North of 34th street.. Well since 34th is actually SOUTH of 42nd, that clue is pretty much useless. But if I got the 34th street clue first, then the 42nd street clue would narrow it down more.

Do not take the clues as building on each other, but as Serges said, take each one as an individual statement. Even rearrange them to fit your needs better. The order you receive them is not important.

I personally HATE, HATE, HATE the river clues. I have also actually received in Dehli east of the tailor and then east of the bank. Same as the example Arabella provided, the 2nd clue is useless. I know that there are up to 5 clues for each city and the order in which they are received is not relevant.

I am sorry about your bad experience, but I do hope you try again!

Good Luck!

*wonders exactly what a river smells like anyways*

That's tough Barry - how totally irritating. Everyone else seems to have covered the 'advice' piece pretty nicely, so on a slightly happier note, I'd like to say congrats on founding your own agency today!
