Because you aren't writing in English! You are writing in jibberjabber slang. Not only is it an annoyance to those of us who actually care about proper spelling as a matter of politeness to eachother, but as Jstkdn points out, it must be EXTREMELY difficult for the many people here who are not from English speaking countries.

we're at the Age of Aquarius now, languages grow together and adopt words and expressions from eachother until we all talk "babblish" :)

And because for many, English is NOT their native language. They have enough problems translating standard English. They don't need to deal with the added ordeal of trying to figure out what your IM message translates to in English, and THEN have to translate it into their own native tongue. Please save everyone a headache (including me), and just use standard English. You will find yourself being a lot more popular around here.

i read that in 20 years 1/4 of all the languages that are still in existance will fade away into nothingness. if blabberjabber words r used often enough, they will soon become a part of the english language. and among da youth this talk is used all da time when emailing and texting. so sorry, ill try to do better ;)

One of the main reasons the "youth" spell that way is that no one has ever made them learn how to spell correctly. (Yes, I understand that limited space on texting also contributes to the need for shortcuts, but these kids can't spell anyway.)

Our "enlightened" education system fears shattering the "self esteem" of our children too much to actually correct them...let alone TEACH them.
