You need basic hair and thread to find these clues regularly at the scene. The advanced skills, I'd recommend waiting to get until you've got a full set of advanced interview skills. (Interview skills are rule bending and sweet talking or interrogation and intimidation.)

You can't talk to a faction unless you have at least a +1 standing with them. If you are negative with them, or nuetral, you'll need to stop doing the little jobs for the other faction and make sure you don't do any cases that they want to see go away. Any cases that they want done, and you sucessfully complete, will increase your standing. Once you have a postive standing with them, you can do the little jobs to pick up the pace.

Beginner cases are the only level cases that close up. They close at 200 exp.

1. Get basic hair first. It will enable you to find hairs at the crime scene. Also basic thread if you don't have it, for finding threads. You can already find footprints at the scene, so getting hair & thread will be more helpful. Then you can get any of the other smart skills (adv thread & hair, ftprint & handwriting analysis)--it's a toss-up at that point.

2. Every now and then you'll get a case where it tells you that your standing with one faction will improve if you solve a case, and with another faction will get worse. The factions chosen for these are random, so eventually you'll get one for OOS.

3. After a certain number of experience points, beginner cases are locked out.

Hope this was helpful!

Cfm & I crossposed, whoops!

Little jobs are when you visit the faction that you are "in" with, you'll have an option to "offer to do a little job" for them. It will increase your standing with them by 4 points, and you can do one little job per day. It involves answering questions about mystery authors/books.
