I just started today and I already finished my three cases but I still don't know what the factions. And what do you have to do to get them.

In your case Carmen as I write this you are in good with the Order. So you could go to City Hall and visit them there. You can do a little job, to earn extra points with them.

Being in good with a faction helps when you are part of an agency for hunting. It can also help if they have some gear that you want to purchase. Faction skills are something to hold off aquiring until later on in your detectives career.
