WARNING GAME SPOILER!!

If you wish to enjoy the adventure of figuring out this game on your own, DO NOT read the rest of this post.

If you are too lazy to read through a page or two of threads to see if your question has already been asked a zillion times, then PLEASE read this first!

Welcome to Sleuth, and your new addiction.  There is no cure, so just accept it and enjoy it! Here are a few tips and hints that you should find helpful, and are among the FAQ of the newbie boards.

First, a great place to FIND ANSWERS and cool history threads about Sleuth is in the Moderator Picks Board. The Mods have picked out their favorite bits and made them easy to find. In addition to personal favorites, try looking over the Newbie FAQ. This can be found on the bottom of most pages as a tiny little grey link. Also the Help file at the upper right of most screens is packed with little useful tidbits.

HOW DO I SOLVE a case? First off…we recommend that you try the tutorial found on the front of the case page. It won’t count against your daily caseload, and it will give you an idea of how the game works. It’s not set up to walk you through the most efficient course through the game, but to show you how the game works, leaving you to find your own strategy. The following formulas will help you find your murderer.

PE+Fake/"none of your business" Alibi=guilty
WE+Fake/"none of your business" Alibi=guilty
2 WE = guilty

PE=Physical Evidence WE=Witness Evidence

Having a clammed suspect that will not give you an alibi is not the same as a fake/none alibi.

PE+WE DOES NOT = Guilty

Yeah...Trelzne is right. Pugilism is my only faction skill and I bought it for that exact reason, because I was working with a full set of toughs. As tempting as the faction skills sound, the basic ones are more useful, really.

Found in other threads and abridged for the purpose of simplification, clarification and/or addressing each question individually:

Q: "Okay...So the items you have (hat, coat, shoes, two accessories) Do you have an inventory where you can pick which ones you want and can keep old ones as multiple choices, or do you have to sell old items back in order to get new ones?"

A: If you're not in an agency, you'll only have room to carry what your detective can wear, so if you want a different piece of equipment and you don't have room for it on you, you'll have to sell something else. However, in terms of favour items you won't need to sell anything in advance as you'll be given an option upon completion of the favour of what to sell and what to keep.

Q: "I know there is a mention of a locker in the agencies. So what are these and are they only available to agency members?"

A: Lockers are the agency's built in item storage. Yes, only agencies have lockers, actually the locker is located solely at an agency's home city so if you're located in an out-of-town office you won't have access to it either despite being in an agency.

Thank you to Greyling for fielding the above set of questions.

Q: "How many favors can you perform per day before subscribing?"

A: For an unsubbed detective, since you have 3 cases, you will get one favor per day. Another thing of note if you are successful in your favor case then it is 3 more to earn the next favor. If you quit or falsely accuse on that favor, it will take you 4 more solves to earn the next favor.

Q: "Does falsely accusing a suspect cause other characters not to want to get your help, cause I did that once and now no one else wants to hire me?"

A: On a technical level, yes. See previous explanation.

Q: "Finally, are odd jobs truly a good thing to do?"

A: Yes. Because the better off you are with the faction the more options are available. Some of the options and requirements are mentioned in previous posts in this thread.

Thank you R Anstett, Reese Withers, and Greyling for fielding the previous set of questions.

Now this is one question that both oldbies and newbies both have.

Q: "How can I keep this wonderfully helpful post on the first page?"

A: Every time you answer a question, check to see if the answer is already posted. If it isn't, respond directly to the thread that it was in and then copy both the question and the answer in the Welcome Newbies thread. It both increases the amount of information found in the post and works as a built in bump.

What can you do when new agents TAKE GEAR AND LOG OFF, and then DON'T LOG IN AGAIN to get your many PM's. You don't want to kick them out, because they're holding $10,000 in gear...

Besides, putting Officer/Director Only tags on the gear and only letting the people you trust use them, there is not much you can do.

Some agencies require their members to give the Director their password so if such a thing does happen the Director can log in and take back the gear.

Failing that, having two sets of smart gear helps. That way if someone does log out wit the Smart Gear, you still have a set

There's no easy answer.. just one of the risks you face when you have an agency.
