I'm not doing so hot. My poor detective is about to disappear and I don't know where to find Mr. Shady. And I'm not sure I've made enough money to clear my guy. Since I'm losing close to half of my cases, I'm not making much money, and I feel like a real failure even though I know this is just a game.

My problem seems to be that I get locked into clammed up folks who won't talk, and I've exhausted every avenue, so I guess. Always wrong. I'm going to disappear.

Any suggestions out there?

Emmet - Yes! If you get retired you can always vreate another detective. Downside is you start again from scratch. So you will have to build up your skills, earn money and equipment etc...

Chet- You dont have to move up, unless you want to. So if Realy Hards are too hard, just stick to Hard cases till you gain more skills and equipment and then try again. There is no rule saying when you should move up. If you want you can do Beginner for ever :P
Only thing is, your skill points will come slower (see what cfm said to Cowbell).

If you are very afraid of retiring, and are at two falses, and need the cash. Just be very conservative about money. If you can not finish a case, without bribing, then move a level down to play cases. You do this until you can pay Shady. At two falses, you have to stop fussing about anything else, other then paying Shady.

After that, you can go back to playing as normal. BUT NEVER GUESS.
Then build up a nice reserve of money. I always tried to keep 3 times the amount of money, that shady wanted from me. Just to make sure that my hard work would never retire.

As for moving up levels. Just test the water, if you don't know who is the killer for sure, quit, instead of accuse. Then if it doesn't work for you, just move back.

Good luck.

Oopsy - when I wrote "physical alibis" above that should of course have read "physical evidence" - *blush*

Emmett, you can have as many unsubscribed detectives as you feel like, but only 2 subscribed :)

Chet, like cfm said, there's nothing holding you to New York you can travel whenever you want and go off exploring what else is out there, however, one small reason for you to maybe stay in NY a little longer could be that you "only" have your witness contact and not your physical evidence contact, and so if you stay in NY you can be sure next time you get a contact it will be the one to help out with physical evidence, but if you go travelling the next contact you gain in one of the other cities could just as easily be the witness contact as the physical evidence one. However, it's just a small reason for staying and not an important one if you're curious to see how the rest of Sleuth world looks since you can always come back and get the remaining contacts later :)

Oh, and you can't do beginner cases forever, only up till your experience reaches 200 - but you can do easies forever ;)

*lol* - cowbell, I thought you already were a tough and smart detective - just teasing ;)

Anyway, if you're not subscribed then there isn't really a need for you to retire your detective to create a new one. You may regret later on that you retired your current detective, and if it's a question of getting the same name for a new detective then retiring one doesn't free the name so you can you use it on a new one.

Okay on to your question about which faction to go for.
If you're subscribed I think a good organization for a tough detective would be the Green Hand - they have some good equipment to enhance toughness and the skill they offer is also handy for improving one's tough qualities.
If you're not subscribed, you don't have the possibility to go for the Green Hand as you're restricted to New York and the factions available there. And here I'd say it's a toss up between the Order of Socrates and the Cosa Nostra since the Brotherhood sells charm items. The Cosa Nostra definitely sell the best tough gear, however, the special skill they offer is of no use if you're not in an agency, and to enter one you need to be subscribed. The Order, on the other hand, mainly has a selection of smart items, but the skill they teach is useful for anyone and not restricted to agencies.
That said, it's best to emphasize that there are a lot of skills more useful and helpful for a detective to get first in terms of case solving before going for the special skills offered by the factions :)
