I got the advanced thread detection skill and then did an intermediate level case and got a thread and it said it belonged to a female. After that case I did a Hard level case and it said I found a thread, and nothing else. I thought it was supposed to always say the gender?

Does the chance of it telling you the gender go down and the skill level go up?

Sam, Dark Raven is referring to the detailed information that comes with the advanced skills, since that is what this question is about. The advanced skills are not 100% effective on their own. It takes a decent set of smart gear to make sure you get all the details to each PE. (ie, slim/heavy, male/female.....)

In response to your statement, working the higher level cases, if you have a negative smart adjustment with your gear, you may very well miss some of the evidence, sometimes even all of it.
