crime labs & status

If you're advanced enough to start an agency, is it wise to choose an office with a crime lab? Some offices come with a status bonus. Does that bring a real benefit or is just something fancy and of no further use?

Crime Labs are "useful" but not necessary. They let agents investigate 1 unknown clue from 1 case in the case file per day (but not one of your own). Hence, if you have a case where you have discovered a footprint, but not whether it is a heavy or a slim person, putting it in the case file will let someone else in your agency check it out to try and discover the footprint type. Remember though, just like when you first investigate a crime scene, wearing smart gear helps. However, if your agency has all the city contacts covered, they can solve the clue for you, making the crime lab relatively obsolete.

I think status bonus adds to your tough (or charm) skill. So someone in a +3 agency will have a slightly better chance of making a suspect talk than someone in an agency without a bonus. It's only a slightly better chance, and would probably only come into play on suspects with a really serious attitude problem.

But first, Mr. BadAss, you have to be subscribed in order to start or join an agency.

But hey, it's worth it.

Thx Esme, your info turns out to be of real value for my further ambitions in this game.
