Detective Biography
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I was fresh out of college, but it was barely a step forward in my life. The economic depression of 1929 rendered my Bachelor of Science degree in Biology useless. I spent the latter part of the year lounging around in my New York studio as I hopelessly watched my savings evaporate. It wouldn't be long now before I would be evicted, and the looming student loans that I owed didn't help either.
Eventually, I stumbled across a newspaper article that covered the ever growing shortage in law enforcement. With heavily armed gangsters and patches of corruption amok, I wasn't surprised.
Then it dawned upon me. Maybe my calling didn't lie in what my degree dictated. Crimes were never in shortage in today's world. Paycheck, benefits, whatever the reason, I needed to get to work. Yet I had the uneasy feeling that a biology degree wasn't going to be a great qualifying factor for a detective.
Fortunately for me, I had a year of prior military experience as an anti-tank rifleman during the WWI draft. Combined with the earnings of my college education, I was the complete package of brains and brawn, and quickly rose through the ranks to become a federal marshal.
Four years passed. Even though I solved the majority of the cases and carried out most of the arrest warrants without difficulty, my superiors began to question my increasing rate of quit cases. The criminals became more evasive, contacts would refuse to speak, and even a few local factions didn't take kindly to me. As I resorted to outright bribery and random accusations, I slowly began to crack under the pressure to do better. By the time three false accusations were racked up, I was "kindly asked" to leave the marshal service.
It took me a while, but I came to the new realization that someone had to bleed for the sake of others. If I continued to mope over the past failures, then the bad guys would have already won. Before I knew it, I became a more idealistic person: less aimed at the paycheck, but more towards the principle.
Having left the marshal service, I obtained a position with Fearless Investigations where I currently work to this day.
