Detective Biography

Roy was always there, an ambitious young man with black hair and that perpetual serious look on his face. He was my father's apprentice, he was there every day, those two always locked together in that room, working for hours on end--alchemy techniques, theory, and practice. I'd bring them tea, and see Roy studying away. My mother...my mother wasn't around anymore, and I loved my father more than anything and anyone in the world, as my only living relative. My father was not well, and I had watched his health decline over time. Then came that fateful day, when I walked into that room, and saw him there, dead, in Roy's arms. The tray dropped.

In some ways I believe Roy was more devastated than I was, but at the same time, I knew he'd never feel the way I did. My father had left before Roy's training was complete. You see, my father was known far and wide as the creator and sole holder of the flame alchemy technique. And now it was gone...or so Roy thought. Until I told him. My father's research was his best kept secret, and he trusted it only to one person: me. Many years ago, he had tattooed his research onto my back, for safekeeping. And I had never told anyone before. Until Roy came along. I felt that it belonged to him now, he had spent so much time dedicated to learning it, pushing himself to the limits of perfection.

Roy saw it, he saw it and he learned it, and then he destroyed it so no one else would ever see it again. Of course by that time he had mastered the technique, and made it his own. He scorched my back with controlled flames until the tattoo was no longer recognizable. But he did a good job, I felt minimal pain. And ever since that day, I've followed him everywhere. He's determined to rise to the top of the military, and I'm determined to always be by his side. I will follow Roy to the ends of the earth. . .
