Detective Biography

I didn't want to be a lawyer in the first place. It was just what the family expected. Father and Mother wanted me to go to law school, the better to inherit the estate when they died. I say, leave it to my siblings. They deserve it.

Me, I much prefer this life. Most people don't know me, and when they hear my name, they think of justice. A kind of justice that works for money, sure, but justice nonetheless. Not like how they think of my family.

After a few successful trials, I made like I was going on a trip overseas, and instead just started up a business as a private investigator. It was kind of a whim. I just used the money that I said I was going to be using in France on a dingy office and some cheap advertising.

Now people came to me with problems I might be able to solve. Not like life back with them, where people stayed away out of fear and barely-concealed loathing.

They'll find me eventually, I think. They're powerful, and Father, Mother, and cousin Walter are all very intelligent. Every day I expect to see the barrel of Walter's .45 in my face when I wake up as he explains why I'm needed back home. It'll happen one day. But for now, I'm living how I want to live, and traveling where I want.

Things in New York could have been going better, since the mob and the Order weren't exactly on speaking terms. I don't like those Brotherhood types, no matter how much they think I'm on their side, so I decided to take a little vacation. I was in London years ago, when I was a kid, to see Walter's family. It hasn't changed much, except that his family seems to have dropped out of view. But it was still dark and dreary and perfectly suited to anyone who wants to live under the cover of shadows.

Things were going well there for a bit, but it wasn't long before I heard a name I really didn't want to hear again. It wasn't much to go on, but it was enough to spook me. Sitting in a quiet cafe one afternoon, I distinctly heard one of my fellow patrons say that Walter Lovecraft was back in town, and the exact nature of his visit was the topic of discussion between the two diners. I knew I had to do two things: find some people to vanish into, and find a place far away enough that even Walter would have trouble tracking me to. Luckily enough, I saw an ad in the local paper about a spot open at a detective agency based in India. It was killing two birds with one stone.
