...I miss my appartment....

It was supposed to be the bust of my career... I had been chasing Narcisse "Whirling Dervish" Drake around town on my spare time. This bust was going to get me set... No more petty cases for the officers or running for the police chief all around town. I would've made detective first class.

I have been following him like a shadow for two months gathering evidence. I must've been cocky because I assumed he didn't know I was on to him... I had accumulated enough information to move in and catch him right handed. But he gave some wrong intel to a vendor in town and therefore threw a monkey wrentch in my wheel.

I moved in for the arrest but accused the wrong man... The public was outraged. The mayor's office was taking fire from all sides. The public was crying for blood and since this happened during an election year, the mayor was more than happy to give his voting citizens what they wanted.

Disgraced, jobless I was sitting in my apartment drowning my sorrow, trying to figure what to do next when I heard a knock at the door. "Telegram for Mr. Raven." said the voice. I replied: "slide it under the door and scram".

I got up and picked it up. It read: "Hope you enjoy your retirement. stop. It was fun while it lasted. stop. If you need work you can always come and work for me. stop. Your friend, Narcisse "Whirling Dervish" Drake ."

I crumpled the paper and tossed it in the fireplace. The fires of the fireplace burning the paper as the fire of my anger burned my soul....
